Theodore N. Lukits (1897-1992)

Competition painting by Theodore Lukits for composition class, April 1916. Inscribed: "Budney- (Budney was the class monitor) L. Kamm is playing harp - Ha! Ha! P.S. get me some extra copies as he asked for several prints."

Background information: Fine arts students at art academies like the Art Institute of Chicago studied composition, integrating a number of figures into a single painting. In Lukits' day, most of these still relied on classical motifs - nymphs, satyrs and putti. Lukits studied composition at the Art Institute of Chicago with both Harry M. Walcott and Karl Buehr.
