Theodore Lukits loved the high mountains of California. While he painted in and around Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead soon after his arrival in California, it was the drama of the Sierra Nevadas that he relished. He painted many scenes of the Sierras, primarily approaching from the East through Lone Pine, Bishop or Mammoth Lakes, and back- or horse-packing into the mountains for stays that could last several weeks. Lukits seemed to have started his works in the Sierras in 1923 or 1924. In this section we'll feature a number of his more panoramic works and concentrate on his unique high mountain series in other galleries.
